Interviews by Delaware officials for Nat'l School Nurses Confererence

Complete power point presentation from NASN Conference

Dr. Sanjay Gupta of CNN: Widely respected. The athlete in this CNN spot was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White, the EXACT syndrome of Brandywine High athlete Joe Till at our first event 2 years ago. The tide is turning quickly. A month after his procedure to Nemours, Joe, like this boy, was back on the playing field. Every 3d day in America an athlete dies of SCA. The AHA is on the wrong side of this issue. PLEASE take a moment to view this CNN vid.

IT's UNIMAGINABLE: Never take your child's heart health for granted. My daughter Grace G Fire was an elite athlete. There was no Heart History on either side of the family. Yet, she succumbed to Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Take this short video "to heart"

  • 2nd Article 5/27/15  WALL STREET JOURNAL titled "Getting To The Heart Of The Matter: Should NCAA Require EKG's"? The rationale given by the American Heart Association is that widespread screening could lead to unnecessary and possibly risky medical interventions that could sideline athletes for conditions that might never have caused problems. How Ridiculous!

Brief WDEL Interview:

The FACTS: The national average is that 1 in 100 students who have an ECG / EKG have a cause for concern. Our first event yielded 5 in 200; double the average. Here is a note from the mother of the athlete with the most significant finding:

Greer,

We were actually able to get into cardiologist yesterday, had ekg and ultrasound.  Wolfe Parkinson White confirmed and Joe is scheduled for Catheter ablation on Feb 12th.  We met with our pediatrician this morning to discuss and he is on board 100 percent.  I am happy to help in any way to raise awareness.  I am just still a little taken back that his has all happened, and is happening, and trying to truly grasped how blessed we are that this defect was found.
Sharon Till 1/30/2014

Greer,

Great job!

Few people can ever take credit for saving a person life. Sounds like this young man has a healthy future to look forward to because  to your  vision. Keep up the good work! You are the real deal.

Tom Gordon, Executive  New Castle County
